You can't draw any generalizations about which chamber is "more accurate", though. A 5.56 chamber in a nice stainless Kreiger barrel would be plenty accurate.

5.56 chambers are a tad longer than .223 chambers (as is the ammo). That is essentially why you can shoot .223 out of a 5.56 chamber but not vise-versa. There is more to it than that really, but that is the basics. .223 ammo has some freebore before it hits the rifling, so that can be why the 5.56 ammo is more consistant. FWIW, those who have traveled this road already found chambers that provide better accuracy than 5.56 and allow compatibility. Just follow their lead. However, you can safely chamber a.223 ammo in a 5.56 chamber. That’s because the 5.56 chamber can fit and withstand the.223 ammo. The 5.56 spec allows for slightly longer chambers for higher pressures. The .223 has a tighter chamber around the neck and is shorter which allows for a bit better accuracy. You can shoot .223 ammo in a 5.56 chamber, but it is DANGEROUS to shoot 5.56 (surplus for instance) ammo in a .223 SPECIFIC chamber. BE CAREFUL.
